
Merle "Red" Whaley, 85, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, in Naples, Florida, surrounded by his wife and three sons.
Born in Colorado, Red lived a life rooted in hard work, family, and service to others. He was a rancher, teacher, mentor, coach, and entrepreneur who made a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Red taught at Central High School from 1969 to 1988, where he influenced generations of students both in the classroom and through coaching. In 1982, he founded the Whaley Gradebook Company, building it into a successful business before selling it in 2013.
Following retirement, Red and his wife Margaret moved to Pensacola, Florida, and later to Naples in 2021.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Margaret Whaley; his sons, Frank Whaley; Wes Whaley (Anne, Connor, and Jordan); and Glen Whaley (Bonnie, Hunter (Caitlin), Tyler (Kylie and Carter), and Kaden (Sonya)).
Red will be remembered for his strength, integrity, and dedication to his family, students, and community.
