
Doug was born in Chicago on February 20, 1952 and grew up in St Louis graduating from Webster Groves High School in 1970. He earned a BS in Biology in 1974 from the University of Missouri and graduated with honors from University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. He went on to complete an internship in Small Animal Medicine at Texas A&M University in 1979.
He specialized in small animal medicine in Houston and Grand Junction for nearly 30 years.Although he loved and respected all animals, he had a special place in his heart for cats. All the needy cats in the Lincoln Park neighborhood knew where to come for a meal and warm place to sleep.His favorite place was outside camping and fishing and bird watching with family and friends.
He was a devoted dad to Emily driving and flying countless miles to get her to basketball competitions all over the country. He was a strong supporter of his wife's practice of midwifery and never complained about her hours away from home.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Ruth Ann and his daughter Emily, son in law, John Heine and adored grandson Henry. Henry was the light of his life. Other survivors include numerous siblings.

He will be missed and was loved by many. He requested cremation and no service.
