Tom was born in Menomonie, Wisconsin. At age 10 Tom and his family relocated to Grand Junction. He graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1967 and proudly served in the Navy.  Following his military service, Tom worked for United Readimix, Western Dairymen  Association, and the Oil field.  He then moved to Denver,  where he worked for CAST (Colorado All-STATE Trasnsportation) as a heavy haul driver. Tom pursued a certification in Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics from the Denver area and went on to work for Continential and Frontier Airlines.  He played a key role in bringing Airbus planes into service for Fontier. Upon retiring Tom continued his career with BE Aerospace, traveling the world for work-including extended assignments in Korea and China-and visiting Ireland, England and France.  On June 9th, 1972, Tom married the love of his life Norma Culmer.  He became the proud father to  three small children. Toms greatest pride was his family.  He was always dedicated to Norma and the children, actively supporting them in every phase of life.  In his spare time, Tom was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast who enjoyed building and working on motorcycles. Tom is survived by his wife Norma; his brother Jack Johnston; Shirley Johnston; and his children Dan Culmer; and Barbara Cole.  He leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 7 greatgrand children.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Flora; his daughter Shelly Ortego; and his grandson Zachary Culmer.   Tom often said "If I had known I would of lived this long I would of taken better care of myself." His wit, dedication, and love for his family will never be forgotten.
