
Gene Merrick Kinsey died May 6th in Grand Junction, Colorado. He served on the city council and was elected mayor of Grand Junction in 1999-2001. Gene was a life-long educator and administrator teaching biology and was principal at Grand Mesa Youth Services Center before retiring.
Gene was born November 13, 1948, in Denver. He taught in the Denver public school system after graduating from Western Colorado University in Gunnison where he earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
He married Nancy Ann McCarroll in 1990, they enjoyed traveling, their canine companions, fishing and being with family and friends. She preceded him in death in 2020.
Gene was an avid reader of just about any genre but especially enjoyed historical non-fiction and mystery novels. He and Nancy were active parishioners at Immaculate Heart of Mary catholic church in Grand Junction.
His parents Wilson Kinsey, Jr., and Betty Ann Merrick preceded him in death along with one brother, Patrick Edward Kinsey of Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
He is survived by one sister, Kathy Kinsey of Grand Junction and a number of nieces and nephews.
The Rite of Committal will be at Immaculate Heart of Mary following the 8 a.m. mass on Monday, June 22, at 790 261/2 Road in Grand Junction
