Born in Decatur, Illinois on April 23, 1941 to John A. and Emogene Bramhall Kilborn, Mary Day was a steady, strong, and loving woman who was always there. In 1959, she was part of the first graduating class at General Douglas MacArthur High School. Then, forming the foundation for her lifelong love of learning and service to others, she graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where she proudly pledged Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
On March 14, 1964, she married Dr. Terry Henry Musgrave. The newlyweds began their life together in Spokane, Washington, where Terry served at Fairchild Air Force Base and Mary Day taught elementary school. Years later, they settled in Grand Junction, where they raised their family.
Mary Day was a proud and active member of P.E.O., finding joy and purpose within the fellowship of Grand Junction's Chapter DY. She treasured her many friendships formed through the organization, as well as the opportunities to support women's education and leadership. In addition, Mary Day not only sang in the choir at First United Methodist Church, but also performed in several plays and musicals within the Walter Walker Fine Arts Center at Mesa College in the William Robinson Theatre.
A gifted quilter, Mary Day poured love and creativity into each personalized quilt she made for her family and friends. She also delighted in the social camaraderie of playing hours and hours of bridge with her wonderful cronies. She and Terry shared a love of travel. If the destination wasn't Bermuda or London, it was all across the country in order to see grandbabies, or yet another football game.
Mary Day adored her recent dogs, Katie and Suzy Q, and she held a deep appreciation for the kindness of her neighbors and friends, whose support in recent years brought her much aid and comfort.
She is survived by her sons, William (Neely) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Douglas (Amy) of Bend, Oregon, as well as her six grandchildren: Carter (Ashley), Luke, Eli, Miranda, Colt, and Delaney. Mary Day is also survived by her younger brother John A. Kilborn (Judith) and nephew Brian Kilborn, of St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Terry, and her beloved parents.
A funeral celebrating Mary Day's life will be held on May 17 at 11 o'clock inside First United Methodist Church in Grand Junction. She will be laid to rest at Veterans Memorial Cemetery of Western Colorado on May 20.
